Why We Should Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

At CFRC we are all about reducing waste, reusing what we can and recycling what we can’t use. We want to help lower our waste and this is why you should too!

Reduce

There are many different reasons as to why we should cut down on what we use. One of the main ones being money! That’s not just from the your point of view, but also the people who work at the landfill sites. If you cut what you buy and only buy items that are completely necessary to you then you save money. This in return saves unwanted goods going to landfill and saves waste sites having to waste money dealing with it.

We want to stop items from entering landfill and make sure that we aren’t adding anything to it. In July 2023, we managed to save 21.6 tonnes from entering landfill. This was due your generosity, overall 916 items were donated in July alone.

Reuse

CFRC are all about reusing furniture, that is what we are all about. We collect furniture donations, check to make sure that they are reusable and then put them on the shop floor. Since 2013, we have helped over 24,000 homes and reused over 56,000 items. Donations come from our great customers, without them we wouldn’t be able to help as many people as we do.

A great way to reuse is to upcycle. Make an item new again by either a lick of paint or new knobs onto drawers, the possibilities are endless. You may have a white unit but want a black one, get some furniture paint and give it a coat. This then gives you the item that you wanted as well as saving you money. A pot of paint would cost a lot less than a new unit.

You can change our items to your preferred look, this would probably be cheaper than buying the item brand new.

Recycle

When we can’t use a product, we recycle it correctly and that each part goes to the proper place. At home this would be like putting your paper in the blue bin and your cans in the purple bin.

At CFRC we have our own textile bin that you can use at any time to drop into 24/7.

We also have a project in place to reuse old mattresses. Any that we can’t use gets sent to a recycling facility. They will strip the mattress of its original parts and recycle them. The reusable parts are sent to companies who can put the parts to good use. This means that every part of your mattress can be used in some way to stop it going to landfill.

If you have any items that you think could be reused, donate them today! Cunninghame Furniture Recycling Co. (kudoscloud.co.uk)
