The Impact Of

Mattresses On The Environment

Mattresses can take up to 23 cubic feet in a landfill, this takes up valuable space for refuse that cannot be recycled.
They do not biodegrade!
Resources from discarded mattresses can be used to create new ones by utilising the synthetic materials such as the foam or metal springs.
Accumulating products, manufacturing the mattress and transportation use an excessive amount of energy, by reusing them we stop the need for more to be produced.

Discarded Mattress Stats

Did You Know?

Around 600,000 mattresses are discarded in Scotland every year, and only a small proportion of these are currently being recycled.

Mattress Donation Requirements.

We can uplift any mattress that has not been left outside and is not wet.
We can uplift mattresses that have rips tears and do not have a fire label. However, there will be a charge due to the recycling process.
Reusable mattresses will not have any rips or tears and will include a fire safety label. This is in accordance with the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire Safety) Regulations 1988.

The Benefits For Your Business.

You’ll be recognized as getting ahead of the curve by leading the way for businesses retailers to offer environmentally friendly disposals for their customers.
You can use the information we provide to show your customers how their mattress is disposed of/ cleaned and reused. This gives them proof that you are putting their old products to good use and not directly to landfill.
The statistics that we provide give visual proof of the impact that their donations are making. This information can be utilized to convey to existing and potential customers that you are a forward thinking and environmentally conscious company that is trying to play a part in helping the planet.
When a company recycles its products, it sends a message to consumers that it is committed to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint. This can help build trust and loyalty with customers who are concerned about the environment and want to support companies that share their values.
You can use our monthly figures on your website, social media platforms and shareholder reports.

What It Will Cost You.

We ask that you can store your collected mattresses until the given date and time we can uplift them. Our Renault Lo-loader Luton van can hold approximately 32 mattresses (depending on the size) per run. If you collect more than this, please let us know and we will schedule an additional uplift.  Alternatively you can drop mattresses off at our warehouse in Irvine.
We will charge a fixed rate of £15 per mattress that we are unable to use – there will be no charge for reusable mattresses. We charge this due to the expense of having to recycle that mattress ourselves. This service costs us £15. If your company charges more than £15 to collect a mattress for recycling, the remainder is pure profit.  Every penny you charge your customer to collect a mattress we can reuse is pure profit as we will not charge you a penny.
Any mattresses not used by us will be 100% recycled into its component parts ensuring ZERO WASTE.
You can also drop your mattresses off here at Cunninghame Furniture Recycling, by arranging a drop of time with our Operations Supervisor.
Please call 0800 221 8083 and select option 3.
